Artificial Intelligence's Impacts on Sports Betting
While many people choose their sports bets based on emotion or because it is their favorite team, there are also many people who use advanced models and strategies to analyse huge amounts of data to try and determine who is going to win a match or what bets are the best to place. More and more advertisements like these are popping up across social media, as people create their own AI programs to complete these tasks, and others just use popular AI tools like Open AI's ChatGPT to create models and betting strategies. These AI tools will analyse all the available data and use it to run thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of simulations to predict the outcome of the event with greater accuracy than humans ever could without the help of AI.
Beyond the potential uses for bettors, the casinos and sportsbooks who offer sports bets have begun to phase out human line makers for AI tools for the same reasons that bettors have begun to use them. The AI tools they use are able to analyse far more information and make connections between the data that human line makers could not accomplish, which results in more accurate odds and as a result of eliminating humans from the process, helps to eliminate and detect foul play on sports books.

I believe that there will be a small number of bettors who have great success with AI betting strategies or tools, but I also believe that the sportsbooks and casinos have access to exponentially more resources than bettors, and will therefore win the race to create gambling related AI tools, which will lead to a period of very accurate lines and odds, which would eliminate many strategy bettors today who search for lines they believe are set incorrectly. It is impossible to know, but I don't believe there will be a huge change in wins and losses and the amount people gamble, as there will always be people who believe they have an unbeatable system, and even with AI, sports are among the most unpredictable businesses due to the huge number of factors and the difficulty to measure and express each of them (ex. Player's shooting percentages are easy to factor into a system, but how much sleep that player got the night before the game will impact his performance and therefore results of the game).
ReplyDeleteI also believe that AI powered officials and referees will emerge sooner than later, but it won't change how fans feel. Fans will always find a reason to be upset, and if it isn't the referees decisions then it will be the rules themselves.
As technology continues to advance, the world has to continue to adapt and evolve. Sports betting is one of the ways that helps sport businesses be successful. I believe with the development of artificial intelligence more people will get involved in sports betting. As you mentioned, the artificial intelligence tools will have all the data available on teams and individual players to predict what the outcome of the game most likely will be. Knowing that AI is using a myriad of data, more people may feel inclined to bet because they may feel they will have a better outcome with artificial intelligence's help. Hello, I thought your article regarding AI with sports betting was very cool and interesting. This shows where the future may be heading and how the landscape of sports betting is changing. I did not know that sports books are also using AI to their advantage by allowing them too create future lines for games. These techniques are removing humans who used to do the same job. In the past, people would tend to bet on a team they root for or like. I am interested to see how this changes with AI and if people will only bet on what the AI recommends them to bet. Do you think it is fair for people to use AI to sports bet? I believe if both sides are using the advanced technology than it should be allowed.

If it is true that there are programs that exist that can win bets at higher rates than humans, then using AI to gamble on sports can be looked at as an opportunity for long-term profitability and a relatively safe return on investment if there is a benchmark mathematic success rate. This is an awesome topic to talk about because I love to sports bet. Instead of relying on a gut feeling, people have started to rely on AI for more advice, which I do not know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. AI can obviously gather so much data and give people advice to bet on. AI-powered models can get huge amounts of data and run simulations to predict outcomes better than humans ever could. It is weird to think about how these books rely just on AI to predict these lines too. I wonder, if in the future, when AI improves how much it will actually help sports bettors bet and how accurate the lines they generate are as well. Although I have never sports bet, this post is super relevant to our generation because the majority of people I know do. Now that advanced AI models are accessible and easy to use, many sports bettors are using them to predict the outcomes. I think this can be a good thing and a bad thing for society and the future of sports. I think that it is a better result and idea for the bettor to bet based on statistics than for an emotional connection, even though it gives the person more of a rush and excitement to watch their team or sport. As for the future of betting, it is probably a bad thing as there are estimated results of who they think will win for that reason, as well.
