AI at the Olympics

Artificial intelligence has made it's way to the olympics. The first time we ever saw it used was in the 2020 olympics in Tokyo. AI was used in the following for the olympics, including robots, wearable sensors, machine learning, and the sheer amount of available data to be analyzed and processed for everyone's benefit.  The biggests benefit AI can help with in the olympics is the wearables. These small senros and equpiment have built in chips which can track each players data during the match. This can also help the coaching staff to decide on their next best play or even predict the next play of the opposing team. These AI chips and sensors are also beneficial to sports physicians, physical therapist, and team doctors. Doctors can study through the chips how a player performs, for example, a players shoes or bike pedals, so doctors can pick up if something is off with the player's performance and decide from their the best course of action to help and assist them.

Do you think AI is beneficial to the Olympics? Would you want to wear sensors if you were performing in the Olympics?

  1. This was very interesting to learn about as it seems that the use of AI will be extremely beneficial. Sports leagues around the world, such as the NFL, have been implementing wearables for their players to perform in that are capable of tracking an influx of personal data. These wearables are not only able to track player performance but can also track important medical data such as heart rate and other vitals. This is crucial for player safety in all sports as this can help prevent serious injury and allow trainers, coaches, and medical staff to act quickly upon it. Therefore, I believe that AI will be greatly beneficial for the Olympics as it is another step to ensure the safety of athletes and can provide individuals involved with valuable performance indicators and analytics.

  2. I think that the benefits of participating in actively wearing a sensor heavily outweigh the drawbacks, if there are any. With new technology through the utilization of artificial intelligence, we now have access to more data than ever before. As these athletes are the best in the world, the ability to track each and every movement can help coaches, doctors, and the athletes themselves ensure they are following through with the proper training, and technique at all times. Also, with the collected data, each athlete can receive a personalized training plan that fits their body to optimize performance. As we gain experience with the utilization of AI in sports, I think there is great potential to bring the image of an Olympic athlete to the next level. - David Brubach

  3. Artificial intelligence made its debut at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, which help revolutionize various aspects of the games. The integration of AI, particularly through wearable sensors, offers significant benefits such as real-time player performance tracking, aiding coaches in strategy decisions, and assisting sports physicians in identifying potential issues and providing timely interventions. I believe that AI might be used more heavily in future olympic games, to monitor players health, officiate games, and track fan engagement. All in all, I am not sure if AI is going to be a good thing for the future of sport, so I ask you what you might think about all of this?

  4. It is interesting to see that Artificial Intelligence is on the rise and making its way to the Olympics. I really liked how you informed us about the sensors and equipment that track players during games and matches. I want to learn more about how AI is changing and will be incorporated into the upcoming Olympics. I think that AI is beneficial to the Olympics and sports games because it helps figure out data and statistics. I think there can definitely be some ethical issues to this, however, if players and team members consent and agree, I think it is okay. I am not sure if I would want to wear sensors if I was performing in the Olympics. I think when we know more about the impacts and effects of AI, I could have more information and give an answer. I am wondering what other AI you see coming up for sports games and the next Olympics? Is it a good thing or detrimental to society?

  5. Great post! AI brings benefits to the Olympics, such as sensors that track athletes' data, giving them information about their performance. These sensors help coaches and doctors make smart decisions to improve performance and prevent injuries. Some athletes have been hesitant to wear the sensors during competition, but the advantages of better performance and safety are worth it. Overall, I believe AI helps make the Olympics better for everyone involved.

  6. I really enjoyed reading your blog post! I love how AI is revolutionizing the Olympics! The use of wearable sensors and data analysis not only enhances athlete performance but also ensures their safety. It's amazing how coaches can make strategic decisions based on real-time insights, and athletes can leverage this technology to optimize their performance. However, we must also consider the ethical implications and privacy concerns associated with this advancement.

  7. Great Post! AI will 100% bring a multitude of benefits to the Olympics. It will make it safer for many athletes as we can better track their vitals. Also, we can make the athletes more efficient through their training process leading up to the events. If i was an athlete I would be okay with the new implementations as long as I could see the results and benefits. Also, I believe the biggest impact for AI at the Olympics will be increased fan engagement and tracking. What do you think?

  8. I think that AI is very beneficial for the olympics and will enhance the performance of the players. I think that this will allow players to fully maximize their abilities and new world records will be continued to be set. I would wear senors at the olympics because I think that anyone who didn't would definitely be at a disadvantage to those who are getting perfect feedback and improvement tips from these tools. I am curious to know about how this will impact world records of people and if it will be drastic. Are there any predictions for this data? - Kathleen
